Web 2.0 employer branding tools increasingly relevant

Employers have not yet realized the tremendous opportunity offered by web 2.0 employer marketing tools like blogs, podcasts and social networks.
These tools can be used to brand a company to their target audience more directly and more efficiently than most employers think. More and more companies use podcasts featuring employees to promote their company culture showing professionnals with the relevant skills and the right mindset that they would like to hire.
Job seekers can easily find these videos as they show up quickly in a google search
especially when they are hosted by you tube , myspace…where they are associated with RSS feeds.
The difference with classical recruitment advertisement is that the candidate has the impression to experience the company from the inside which is a strong motivator for those who identify with what they see and hear.
As a result, you can read on certain blogs: Wow! at Google you can work 20% of your time on a personal research project and they have fitness centres, child care and organic food on site…
This is indeed appealing to generation Y as interested in work life balance than in competitive careers.
The message is positively received by exactly the sort of highly educated candidates Google wants to attract. Recruitment is to a high percentage web based, but the internet is also a big pond with a very diversified audience. The challenge for an employer is to channel the right message to the right people. The first thing is to choose the right tags (words that you share with you target audience), but also to choose the right platform.
Try to find out where your target audience gathers in exactly the same way than choosing the right job-board to advertise. These platforms can be social networks like “linked in”,” xing” or“facebook”, but also much more specialized communities of people sharing the same interest than you: innovative technologies, environmental issues, or international careers like on www.terraconnecta.com, the challenge is to find the right spots to target those you want to attract.
